Why I Founded SMECYBERInsights—and Why UK SMEs Need It More Than Ever

Over recent weeks, it has become clear to me that many people in my LinkedIn network are not aware that, alongside my corporate work, I am also the Publisher of SMECYBERInsights.co.uk, so I wanted to take a moment to explain a little more about the platform and the thinking behind it.
I had an IT Security blog “CyberInsights” that I set up years ago. However, despite only ever being semi-operational (One post a week maximum) had over 2,300,000 visitors and a huge number of unexpected comments. The focus of the feedback was Small Businesses were getting hammered and there was no single point of reference for UK Small Business owners.
What surprised me wasn’t the traffic—it was the feedback. Time and again, small business owners told me they were struggling to find clear, practical cybersecurity guidance written specifically for SMEs. That was the catalyst for creating SMECYBERInsights.
I spun the focus and launched SMECYBERInsights.co.uk in 2020 as a not-for-profit platform dedicated to SME Cybersecurity, best practice, and practical advice for UK small business owners and their professional advisers.
The aim from the outset was simple: to raise awareness and build knowledge through education, helping SME Directors, Partners, and Owner-Managers better understand today’s cyber threat landscape and take sensible steps to protect their digital assets.
Over the past six years, SMECYBERInsights has grown into a leading UK small business Cybersecurity resource, delivering actionable threat intelligence, scam warnings, compliance guidance, mitigation strategies, and free-to-access training content tailored specifically to the realities SMEs face and today, SMECYBERInsights reaches a named and GDPR-compliant subscriber community of more than 166,000 SME business owners and professional advisers
